This is a tale of 2 modern vagabonds, Alex and Tom Fuqua, on a shared journey of rediscovery. We’re about to depart on a road trip across the United States and back for 15 days, in a car, on the open road, and heading due West. We leave tomorrow morning, Tuesday the 4th of January and we’ll be driving to New Orleans, Louisiana as our first stop.
Tom and I are in a very unique phase of our lives, both together as partners, and as individuals with separate yet intertwined paths to love, happiness, fulfillment and beyond. First, let me fill you in on what we did to make this trip happen and why the timing is so meaningful for this phase of our lives together.
I (Alex) began a 2-month long work sabbatical in November and it ends on February 1st
I’m exploring passion projects to cultivate as I re-enter the workforce and with a background in journalism, this blog is my excuse to start writing again
Tom just left his job working for his dad and with his brother at the family home building business that he’s worked at for over 20 years!
Tom has never been able to work remotely, nor take more than 3 weeks a year off for vacations and traveling
Tom has never worked for another company and currently has an opportunity to choose his career path with complete agency
Truth be told, we’ve both needed a ‘break’ from everything for some time now. We’ve lived a whirlwind of a marriage thus far. After our wedding on February 29th, 2020, our honeymoon celebration was interrupted with the announcement of a global pandemic and countrywide lockdown. The beginning our marriage was wrought with uncertainty and a never ending cascade of catastrophic news and developments. And we were the lucky ones…
Some 2 years later Tom and I are embarking on yet another adventure in marriage and love! But, this time around, we have the freedom to truly take each day as it comes and live in the present, as 2 jobless wanderers.
